It is a complete meal, combining lentils and rice to create a simple, easy, and healthy dish perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients
- Rice: 1 cup
- Yellow Moong Dal: 1/2 cup
- Salt: As per taste
- Turmeric Powder: 1/2 tsp
- Oil: 2 tsp
- Desi Ghee: 2 tbs
- Chopped Onion: 1 cup
- Chopped Tomatoes: 1 cup
- Chopped Ginger: 1/2 tsp
- Chopped Garlic: 1/2 tsp
- Bay Leaf (Tej Patta): 1 piece
- Kashmiri Red Chili Powder: 1 tsp
- Black Pepper Powder: 1/2 tsp
- Cumin Seeds: 1/2 tsp
Method:
Step 1: Prepare the Rice and Dal
- Wash and Soak:
- Thoroughly wash 1 cup of rice and 1/2 cup of yellow moong dal.
- Soak them together in 1 cup of water for about 15 minutes.
- Pressure Cook:
- Transfer the soaked rice and dal to a pressure cooker.
- Add salt, 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder, and a little oil.
- Cook until you hear 2-3 whistles.
Step 2: Prepare the Masala
- Heat Ghee:
- In a separate pan, heat 2 tbsp of desi ghee.
- Sauté Onions and Ginger-Garlic:
- Add 1 cup of chopped onions
- 1/2 tsp of chopped ginger
- 1/2 tsp of chopped garlic
- Sauté until the onions turn slightly brown
- Add Tomatoes and Spices:
- Add 1 cup of chopped tomatoes to the pan and sauté for a few minutes until they soften
- Then, add 1 tsp of Kashmiri red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp of black pepper powder
- 1/2 tsp of cumin seeds
Step 3: Combine and Cook
- Mix Masala with Khichdi:
- Add the pressure-cooked rice and dal mixture to the prepared masala.
- Mix well to ensure the masala is evenly distributed throughout the khichdi.
Step 4: Prepare the Tadka
- Second Tadka:
- In a small pan, heat 1 tbsp of desi ghee.
- Add 1/2 tsp of cumin seeds and 1 tsp of Kashmiri red chili powder.
- Let the spices sizzle for a few seconds to release their flavors.
- Top the Khichdi:
- Pour this sizzling tadka over the prepared masala khichdi.
